EPISODE # 4
Change Began Many Years Ago
Change Began Many Years Ago
ubí grew up in a community in Nuevo León, Mexico, at a time when women were expected to devote themselves to the home. To continue her education, she had to prove, again and again, that she deserved the opportunity.
Years later, she became a labor lawyer. Working closely with workers’ organizations, she encountered a union landscape shaped by longstanding practices that restricted workers’ control over their own unions.
Her career eventually took her to Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice. From there, Rubí continued contributing to the struggle for greater freedom and democracy in union life.
Through her experience, this episode connects a woman’s pursuit of education and professional opportunities with the broader struggle for workers’ rights. Her story reminds us that the push to transform labor relations in Mexico began many years ago.
